«Chakan HPP» prepares Kyrgyzstan’s HPPs for peak winter loads

The company «Chakan HPP» is conducting a comprehensive program to prepare hydroelectric power plants for increased loads in the autumn-winter period. The main goal of the planned work is to ensure uninterrupted and reliable energy supply to consumers during the cold season, when the need for electricity traditionally increases.

As part of this program, power engineers have already completed major repairs of key hydraulic units at the Bystrovskaya HPP, HPP-6 and Malaya HPP. To identify and prevent possible malfunctions in a timely manner, a thermal imaging survey of equipment at all stations was carried out, allowing the detection of potentially problematic components by temperature deviations. In addition, specialists performed flaw detection – a kind of ultrasonic diagnostics of shafts and critical parts of units at the Bystrovskaya HPP, HPP-5, HPP-6 and Malaya HPP to eliminate the presence of hidden metal defects.

Along with major repairs, ongoing scheduled repairs of main and auxiliary equipment were also carried out, including hydraulic units, power transformers and switchgears at all hydroelectric power stations included in the structure «Chakan HPP».

Work to modernize the energy system continues. Currently, modern vacuum circuit breakers are being replaced and installed at HPP-3, and specialists are replacing the power transformer at HPP-2. All activities are carried out in strict accordance with the approved schedule, reports the Ministry of Energy of the Republic.

Experts hope that carrying out a large-scale repair campaign and diagnostics will significantly increase the reliability of equipment operation and create the necessary conditions for stable operation of hydroelectric power plants during peak winter loads.
