In Kyrgyzstan, at the Orto-Tokoy reservoir, the construction of a new hydroelectric power station is in full swing. The press service of the company «Chakan HPP», which owns the future HPP, reports that the installed capacity of the station will reach 21 megawatts, and the average annual electricity generation will be 75 million kilowatt-hours.
To ensure work on the site, a temporary town was erected, where workers and builders live, and a concrete plant was built. Currently, construction and installation work is actively underway, in particular, pouring concrete for the retaining wall of the outlet canal. In addition, it is reported that specialists have completed work to strengthen the coastline of the Chu River. As of March 10, 460 meters were covered in the tunnel where drilling work is being carried out. Road construction also continues on the upper ridge of the reservoir.
The hydroelectric power plant construction project received approval from the Kyrgyz government on July 30, 2021. On March 24, 2023, the company «Chakan HPP» entered into a contract with the Chinese company China National Machinery Industry Corporation (CNMIS) for the construction of the hydroelectric power station. Completion of construction and commissioning of the hydroelectric power station is planned for the first half of 2026.
