Number of mudflows grows by 500% this year – Ministry of Emergency Situations
A large number of emergency situations with a significant damage and human casualties were registered this year.
About 320 mudflows have been registered since the beginning of the year, First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov reported.
“This number is 500% more than in the past years. Material losses have increased by 803%, the amount is already approaching 2 billion soms. In total, 22 people died from mudflows,” the First Deputy Minister said.
Mambetov noted that in addition to mudflows, other emergencies have become more frequent. In total, more than 2,000 different emergency situations have been recorded in the country, including fires, road accidents, and drowned people.
The Deputy Minister added that mudflows were mostly caused by heavy rains.
