Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has focused on the need for Central Asian countries to bolster their cooperation in defense and security. In his article, “Renaissance of Central Asia: Towards Sustainable Development and Prosperity,” published in Kazakhstanskaya Pravda, Tokayev highlighted the growing urgency for a unified regional security architecture.
Tokayev pointed out that the complex and persistent military-political challenges surrounding Central Asia necessitate closer collaboration among the region’s states in the field of defense. He emphasized that the development of a regional security framework is becoming increasingly critical. This includes creating a comprehensive catalog of security risks specific to Central Asia and implementing measures to mitigate them.
“The creation of a regional security architecture is becoming especially urgent, including through the development of a catalog of security risks for Central Asia and measures to prevent them,” Tokayev stated.
His remarks reflect concerns about the ongoing instability and threats in the region, which he believes require a coordinated response.
As a proponent of international law and the principles of sovereignty, Tokayev reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to these values.
“As a responsible participant in the world community, Kazakhstan advocates strict adherence to the principles of international law, respect for sovereignty and the inviolability of borders,” he said.
Tokayev outlined several key priorities for Central Asian states, including the formation of an indivisible security space within the region. He called for comprehensive approaches to address both traditional and emerging threats, and the development of effective response and prevention strategies. Additionally, he stressed the importance of active engagement with the United Nations and other international and regional organizations to enhance regional security.
