In 2024, Tajikistan experienced 639 natural disasters (including 557 classified as emergencies), resulting in the deaths of 17 people, Rajabali Rahmonali, the newly appointed head of the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, told reporters in Dushanbe today.

According to Rahmonali, 17 people lost their lives in 13 incidents, compared to 51 fatalities in 12 emergencies in 2023.

He noted that only 50 of the recorded incidents caused financial damage, amounting to 161.05 million somonis, compared to 76.77 million somonis in 2023.

As a result of natural disasters last year, 334 houses were damaged—102 completely, 50 partially, and 174 sustaining minor damage.

Additionally, 1,915 auxiliary buildings, 12 educational institutions, 12 cultural and residential facilities, and 542 kilometers of transport infrastructure, including 58 kilometers of roads, were affected.

Furthermore, 80 bridges, 139 kilometers of power transmission lines, 154 kilometers of vegetative canal routes, and 29.7 kilometers of riverbank reinforcements suffered damage.

The agrarian sector reportedly also suffered losses, with 2,729 hectares of farmland destroyed and 1,117 livestock lost, including 191 large and 823 small animals.  Additionally, 26 fish farms were affected.

To support reconstruction efforts, building materials, as well as food and non-food supplies worth 50.57 million somonis, were allocated for the construction and restoration of damaged homes.
