Chinese electric scooter manufacturer Ecomoto is set to begin production in the Tashkent region, according to the press service of the regional administration.
The announcement follows a recent meeting between Odiljon Ataullaev, the khokim (mayor) of Yangiyol district, and Ecomoto representatives, culminating in the signing of a memorandum for the new production venture.
The $10mn project, funded by foreign investment, is expected to generate 50 permanent jobs and commence production in the Yangiyol district in the second quarter of 2025.
In broader trade relations, Uzbekistan’s total trade turnover reached $5.9bn by 2024, marking an 11.3% increase from the previous year. Imports surged to $4.9bn, reflecting a 16.7% rise. This sustained growth stresses Uzbekistan’s ongoing infrastructure development and its increasing reliance on Chinese technology and equipment.
Currently, there are 2,141 enterprises operating with Chinese investments in Uzbekistan, including major players like Huawei, ZTE, and Sinotruk. This influx has boosted industrial and technological advancement in Uzbekistan, spurring innovation and job creation.
